Substance Abuse and Addiction

Many individuals who have a substance use disorder also suffer from other mental illnesses.  Individuals suffering from a form of mental illness often turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate.  In this module we will discuss addiction, and the various forms of therapy used to treat addiction issues.  We will also discuss the medical conditions that result from substance abuse.  Students will learn how to manage interpreting assignments in emotionally charged settings and how to bridge both the language and cultural gaps LEP individuals face when seeking help for addiction and mental health issues.
